The fastest switch out there is the Speed Silver. They are optimized for speed by being .06 MM thinner than Reds, which creates a shorter travel distance. The Silver switch's faster actuation
Cherry MX Silver (or speed) switches, on the other hand, are even more sensitive than Reds. It has a total travel of 3.4mm and an actuation point of 1.2mm. Again, you only need to press down halfway to activate the switch, but because the total travel is smaller than the Reds, you activate the key 0.8 mm sooner.
The main difference between the two is the travel distances. The MX Red is a standard-travel switch with 2.0 mm pre-travel and 4.0 mm total travel. This is the standard actuation distance present in most Cherry MX switches. In comparison, the MX Speed Silvers have shorter travel distances at 1.2 mm of pre-travel and 3.4 mm of total travel.
